Alodine 1132 Touch-N-Prep Coatings Pen

Henkel developed Alodine 1132 coating with the convenient Touch-N-Prep applicator pen to provide a clean, easy-to-use method of repairing conversion coatings on aircraft and aircraft part surfaces.

The unique Alodine 1132 Touch-N-Prep no-rinse conversion coating effectively repairs bare aluminum substrates to prevent corrosion. It does not require rinsing, and can be air-dried or force-dried with hot air. The high-density acrylic tip of the Touch-N-Prep pen can be modified with a single-edge razor blade to form any shape. The design of the Touch-N-Prep pen allows repair of hard-to-reach places or the underside of aircraft. This new application method controls the amount of coating applied to the surface. Use Alodine 1132 Touch-N-Prep sparingly – a little goes a long way. This optimized application method greatly reduces the amount of chemical used and generates no secondary waste associated with other repair methods.

Touch-N-Prep coatings represent a dramatic environmental improvement over current methods of chemical coatings touch up. The easy-to-use, dry-in-place coating is a cost-effective and safe method of touch-up repairs of aircraft and aircraft part surfaces.

Paint-On Fire Protection Paint-On Fire Protection
Category: Composites

Exclusively from Rudolph Brothers:

There is a growing concern for increased fire protection in Motor Coaches, Buses, and Trucks. Rightly so; we rely on these vehicles to move large amounts of people and cargo every day throughout the country. Operators and OEM’s need to put proper protection in place to ensure the safety of their passengers. The General Public and Regulators are starting to take note. There is major concern.

How concerned are you of fire on a bus or truck that you manufacture?

What are you doing to decrease the risk of fire on the buses or trucks that you manufacture?

Certain areas of the buses have a tendency to reach high temperatures that might cause fluids to ignite. These areas tend to be small and cramped which limits the ability to place fire suppression systems. Passengers and cargo are never far from fire prone areas.

What are you doing to block the path of the fire?

Fire extinguishing systems are expensive and, many times, cannot be placed inside an engine compartment because of the cramped space. Many times, the engine compartments are constructed from some sort of fiberglass compound which, like all organic compounds, will burn. As the fire spreads, the passengers and cargo are more and more at danger. Considering the size of many of these buses and trucks, it is critical to recognize the fire and then get the passengers off of the vehicle. Time is limited.

When a fire is spreading through a loaded bus, the quicker the passengers can exit the bus, the better their chance of survival. Many bus manufacturers are installing fire suppression and extinguisher systems, but these are limited. Why not apply a fire protection coating as a passive barrier to the actual structure that will block the spread of the flames?

Rudolph Brothers presents Fireguard 75PA Excel (Fireguard) from Scott Bader. Fireguard is a paint-on top coat which has been shown to withstand a direct flame of 700° C for over 60 minutes. Since Fireguard is painted on, it can drastically increase the fire protection inside cramped areas like engine compartments. The fire protection coating can be applied to the corners and tight spots that might not be reached by traditional extinguishers.

An intumescent topcoat, such as Crystic Fireguard 75PA Excel, when applied to a cured FRP laminate surface provides a passive fire protective barrier to block the path of a fire. It works due to its unique chemistry and its reaction when it exposed to a direct flame. In simple terms, when fire attacks the intumescent topcoat it causes a chemical reaction which makes the topcoat expand to form a non flammable protective layer that insulates the surface over which it has been applied. While it will not protect indefinitely from an unchecked fire, Crystic Fireguard 75PA Excel can withstand a direct flame at a temperature of 700 deg. C for over 60 minutes without the laminate behind catching fire. This is a significant period of time to contain a fire and prevent it from rapidly spreading, which can help to avoid catastrophic fire damage and save lives.

Rubber Mold Release from Rudolph Brothers

Frekote® Aqualine® R-220™

A Semi-Permanent Release Agent for Demanding Rubber-Molding Applications Frekote® Aqualine® R-220™ offers excellent release and slip properties and is recommended for the most demanding rubber molding applications, such as EPDM rubber. When properly applied to a preheated surface, this water-based product chemically bonds to the mold surface to form a thin, inert, thermally stable release coating.

Features and Benefits

• Multiple release technology
• High temperature application
• Fast curing
• Non-flammable
• Low VOC (< 3 g/L)
• Low mold build-up – reliability
• Reduced reject rates
• Improved storage stability, 12 months from Date of Manufacture at 77°F
• Freeze / thaw stable

Operation and Application:

• We strongly suggest that molds be thoroughly clean and dry prior to application of the release agent. Henkel offers Frekote® PMC™ and Frekote® 915WB™ as ideal mold cleaners for this application. Heavy mold build-up could require abrasion (sand or glass beadings) followed by a cleaner washing. This will remove all types of build-up or previous release contamination.
• Frekote® Aqualine® R-220™ is used as received and is normally spray-applied to hot mold surfaces ranging in temperatures between 140°F (60°C) and 400°F (204°C).
• For best results, use a non-atomizing spray rate of 2 to 3 fl. oz./minute for warm molds at temperatures below 300°F (149°C) and 4 to 5 fl. oz./minute for hot mold temperatures above 300°F.
• Four applications are recommended for warm mold temperatures, while six applications are recommended for hot molds. Allow release agent to dry between applications and fully cure prior to use. At 300°F, Frekote® Aqualine® R-220™ dries instantly and requires less than four minutes to fully cure.

Touch-Up

Touch-up coats should only be applied to areas where poorer release is noticed. This will reduce the possibility of release agent or polymer build-up. The frequency of touch-up will depend on the polymer type, mold configuration, and abrasion parameters.

More Information from CrossLink:

THREE COMPONENT VARIABLE HARDNESS POLYURETHANE™

CLV 1V-019-A/B/C (Patent Pending)

CROSSLINK® Three Component Variable Hardness System is designed for hand batching according to the following procedure:

There is no need to warm Part-A, B or C, as all components are low viscosity liquids at room temperature. We recommend that all mixing should be carried out at room temperature.

1. Pre-weigh and mix Part-A and B according to the recommended mix ratios (by weight) in a plastic or metal container at room temperature. Any additives such as pigments and fillers if required should be added to the mix at this point.

2. Place the sample in a vacuum chamber and adjust the vacuum to minimum of 29 in. of Mercury. Degassing should continue until most of the bubbling has ceased. De-gassing of Part-A and B should not take more than 5 min.

3. While Part-A and B are degassing, weigh out the correct amount of Part-C in a container at room temp. Degas Part-C at RT. If necessary, degassing aid (Sag-47) can be added to part-C to speed up degassing process.

4. Add the Part-C to pre mixed Part-A and B. Mix thoroughly with out whipping too much air into the mix. Make sure that the walls and the bottom of the container are being scraped during mixing. There should be no swirls visible and the mixture should be completely homogeneous.

5. Place the mixture back into vacuum chamber and degas until most of the air that was mixed-in is gone. This usually takes no more than 5 minutes. A good rule of thumb is when the surface of the mixture is more than half clear of bubbles under good vacuum, degassing is usually adequate. Pour times of less than 5 minutes usually do not allow degassing after mixing.

6. Pour the mixture into a preheated mold that has been sprayed or coated with mould release. The temperature of the mould should determine the de-mould time for the cast part. The processors should determine their own mould temperature. It could be anywhere between 60°C to 100°C. Higher the mould temperature shorter the de-mould time. In most cases cured part can be de-moulded in minutes. However, keep in mind that the longer the gel time, the longer the de-mould time.

7. Recommended post cure time: 4 hrs. @ 100°C.
or 6-8 hrs @ 800C
or 66 hrs @ 600C
or 7 days @ 250C

The preceding steps are meant to be a guide for hand batching Crosslink Urethane Systems. After becoming familiar with this technology, it will become apparent that steps may be shortened or eliminated.
